Religion, cultural traditions, and the Shariah all contribute the suppression of women in Islam, but modernization and parts of the Quran have begun to free many women from the belief that this is natural and right. To start, Islam did not always keep rights from women, and it says many times in the Quran that women should be treated fairly and are as important to Allah and Islam as men. In fact, the Hadith, the personal stories of Muhammad the Prophet, were mostly written by A'isha, his wife and most reliable source for his stories. However, some ethnic groups have suppressed women in the name of Islam to gain power and control, and burkas and other signs of the destruction of women's rights became tradition and generally accepted in these countries. The Islamic laws set forth by the religious and political leaders, known as the Shariah, even has some laws against women's rights. However, the modernization of the global world has begun to weaken the position of these laws. Women are now rebelling in their own ways, such as peacefully protesting and making their burkas fashionable and attractive. This has led to some political unrest, and some women have been jailed for this. However, a full-out revolution of the sexes may start in this region if this repression continues.
ReplyDeleteThe role of women in the Islam society is very complicated to understand. In society women are held in the traditions that they are lesser than the men and they are treated as such. In the culture as well, women are told to cover themselves completely and follow without objection to what the men say. In the Hadith of Islam, it states that women are to be treated equally as men with the same amount of work and responsibility and say. It also states that women hold a position of honor and dignity and also were created as a partner in helping the men. Despite the Hadith, the societies and cultures of places with the teachings of Islam have always been that women should cover up and stay quiet and let the men speak his thoughts. I think this is why there is controversy about women in Islam since the Hadith states women should be treated equally to men and culture says they should be treated lesser.
ReplyDeleteControversy has risen on the subject of women in Islam due to the traditional and cultural influences that has been practiced for centuries. In the Hadith, the book under the Koran, this book contains parts where it described recollections of perspectives that were of women in Islam. Here, it goes on to speak about the women's authority role during that period of time. In addition, the conflict between modernism and tradition is always one that results in many issues. Women were expected to be covered with only their eyes showing, but nowadays, women have read the scripture and have decided for themselves that this was merely a tradition and it would basically not be disobeying their religion, so they have altered their attire and now try to present themselves more stylish. This has brought upon some conflict as some Islamic people do not approve of this change, however the struggle for full equality and rights of women is still a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteThe role of women in Islamic society is controversial because the traditional Islamic ideology of the roles of women clashes with the Western modernization taking place there. Although the Quran and the Hadith state the equality between women and men and show the importance of women through Islamic history, over time, certain ethnic groups limited the rights of women. These limits clash with the freedoms of Western women, but women with these limited freedoms want the liberties of Western women, resulting in protests.
ReplyDeleteIn modern day Islam, women do not have the same rights as men due to the law, also known as the Shariah. However, the holy text of the Muslims, or the Quran, disagrees by expressing that women are as important to Allah, or the Muslim God, as men. This causes some conflict involving a woman’s role in an Islamic society and how important it is. The Shariah, which is written by the Muslims’ religious and political leaders, has laws against women, such as the one stating that a woman’s testimony in court is worth about half of a male’s, or that a woman has to cover almost every inch of her body to stay modest. These laws cause women to protest by adding small fashionable touches to their everyday modest garb called burkas, and these actions have not gone unnoticed, mostly in a bad way, ending in jail time for many Islamic women. On the other hand, the Quran often states that women are as important as men and should be treated as fairly. The Hadith, or the life story of Muhammad the prophet and the secondary text of the Muslim world, is mostly written by women, showing their importance scholarly and religiously and backs up the Quran’s idea of women. This is pretty different from the law that male leaders have made up leading to debates and protests, and the modernizing world is helping the women’s view on this problem.
